Spring is Never So Sweet As When You're Expecting | Bethesda Maternity Photographer

It’s amazing how the seasons remind us of the stages of life. As the dead of winter melts away revealing tiny blades of grass and determined daffodils, one can’t help but marvel at the miracle of life. And yet this spring, as a mom-to-be for the first time, I appreciate it in a much more profound way.

As a DC family photographer, I’ve been able to watch countless families put down roots and grow their families — shooting everything from engagement shots to birth announcements to actual birthdays. Like real-life gardens, each year they come back a little fuller and a little brighter, and they never cease to make me marvel at the precious gift of life.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Talah Wafa and her husband Ibrahim Binkhamis since their 4-year-old daughter, Tamara, was a baby. And like all children, Tamara has grown like a wildflower, getting more beautiful and radiant with each passing year. This year, Wafa-Binkhamis family is adding a new addition to their lives—a little son or daughter to be born in July around the same time my child will arrive. The anticipation is not like waiting for spring — it can’t come soon enough, and when it does, it will be new and fresh and beautiful.

Working with families like the Wafa-Binkhamises and nourishing those multi-year relationships has taught me to value to the special seasons in life each time we work together. And now that I’m entering a new season myself, it’s wonderful to learn from friends that have been producing beautiful bouquets of memories before me.

Baby Bumps and Blossoms

I had a perfectly pink dress, a perfectly pink grove of trees near our home, and some perfectly golden light. These three things can only mean an impromptu baby bump shoot in the blossoms!

I volunteered Rob to take some photos of me and all I was hoping for was at least ONE image that I could happily show baby Millwater one day. Well, Rob hit it out of the park today and I LOVE the pictures!! He must have been paying attention all these years or maybe today was just my lucky day?

Either way, this pregnant photographer is super proud of her hubby today and I love the photos even more knowing that he was the one to take them.

Our "real" maternity shoot with Marian Lozano Photography is next week and I can't wait to share those photos as well. Until then, enjoy Mr. Robert Millwater's photography blog debut.
